Winter Solstice Message

Ice Kaleidoscope

Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year and the official start of winter’s stillness—even as the busiest days of the holiday season lie ahead.

Last year, I spent time reflecting on the idea of creative hibernation and its benefits. While those reflections still resonate deeply, this year, I felt drawn to explore the energetic significance of the solstice—how this celestial event may impact us on a more personal level.

As you might imagine, my search uncovered a wealth of insights! Among the usual wisdom about rest and renewal, a few key ideas stood out to me:

  • The solstice represents the "birth of the sun," as the longest night begins to give way to increasing daylight. This mirrors our own cycles of renewal, offering a time to release what no longer serves us and set intentions for growth and transformation.
  • The solstice invites us to turn inward. The lack of external light enhances our connection to intuition and the unseen. Practices like meditation, journaling, or quiet contemplation can unlock profound insights and foster spiritual clarity.
  • This day reconnects us with nature's rhythms, reminding us of the balance between darkness and light, activity and rest. Honoring these cycles brings harmony to our lives, elevating the “rest and renewal” aspects of creative hibernation to a deeper, more intentional level.

I love these ideas. For me, the solstice has always been a time to celebrate turning the corner toward longer days. I love knowing that each day the light grows just a little brighter, carrying us closer to spring.

Today, we return to the light!
